Wrestling Lockup With Brandon 8/3/17: NXT Recap

NXT returned this week for more NXT action at Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida. Last week, former best friends now enemies Kassius Ohno and Hideo Itami battled to a Ohno DQ win, after a low blow by Itami. SAnitY continues to stalk the NXT World Tag Team Champions The Authors of Pain and Drew McIntyre is gunning for NXT World Champion Bobby Roode.

- Johnny Gargano battled Raul Mendoza.
- Sonya Deville battled Jenna Van Bemel.
- Aleister Black battled Kyle O'Reilly, who made his NXT debut tonight.

- NXT Women's Champion Asuka and Ember Moon meet face to face.

- NXT World Champion Bobby Roode offers his opinions on his past and up coming opponents.

- Hideo Itami demands respect from everyone, including Kassius Ohno.

Johnny Gargano vs. Raul Mendoza: The match closes out with Mendoza missing a cross body attempt and drilled with a Gargano spear. Gargano hits a lariat on Mendoza, but Mendoza tries to come back with an enziguri. Gargano counters the 450 Splash by catching Mendoza's arm in mid air and forcing Mendoza to tap out to a chicken wing submission.
Winner: Johnny Gargano, by submission.

- A video of Paul Ellering plays. Ellering promises that a new chapter in the Book of Pain will be written, as The Authors of Pain will defend their NXT World Tag Team Championship against SAnitY at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn 3.

- Asuka Promo: Asuka says she's beaten Ember Moon before, will beat her again and Ember isn't ready for Asuka. Ember's music hits and she interrupts. Ember says she's been fighting her hardest to get back to where she belongs in NXT, Asuka may think Ember isn't ready, but Ember knows that she's ready for Asuka. Asuka goes for a handshake with Ember, but pulls back and instead slaps Ember in the face. Ember drills Asuka with a forearm and then lays out the champ with the Eclipse Stunner to end the segment.

- Interview With NXT World Champion Bobby Roode: Roode mocks Roderick Strong for coming up short in his title match last month. Roode then begins mocking his new #1 Contender, Drew McIntyre. Roderick Strong suddenly interrupts and goes after Roode, but gets held back by NXT Officials. William Regal appears and states that this isn't the way to go when trying to keep things professional. Strong demands another shot at Roode and wants to be added to the NXT World Championship Match with Drew McIntyre at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn 3. Regal says it's not happening, the title match will stay as a one on one between Roode and McIntyre.

- Sonya Deville vs. Jenna Van Bemel: The match closes out with Jenna unloading a series of kicks on Sonya. Sonya gets Jenna in the corner, goes for the corner attack, but gets shoved away by Jenna. Sonya catches Jenna moving in and applies an arm triangle submission and gets the tap out win.
Winner: Sonya Deville, by submission.

- Backstage, Hideo Itami says he doesn't get respect from Kassius Ohno or anyone else, so why should he care. Itami then makes his way out to the ring and demands respect from everyone. Aleister Black interrupts and heads to the ring for his main event match. Itami and Black have a stare down until Itami tries to attack. Black counters and lays out Itami with the Black Mass kick.

- Aleister Black vs. Kyle O'Reilly: The match closes out with Black hitting a snap suplex and a diving knee on O'Reilly. O'Reilly catches Black's arm and works it over in the ropes and then locks in a top wrist lock submission. Black escapes, delivers a Big Boot and then reclaims control of O'Reilly. Black hits a hurricanrana on O'Reilly and gets a near fall. O'Reilly counters the Black Mass kick and traps Black in an Ankle Lock submission. Black escapes, but he eats an axe kick and a forearm from O'Reilly for a near fall. Black counters a suplex and then gets into a striking match with O'Reilly in the middle of the ring. Black connects with the Black Mass kick on O'Reilly out of nowhere and scores the pinfall.
Winner: Aleister Black, by pinfall.
